“Misty my 30-year-old pony is a welsh section D part bred and I have owned her since she was 23-years-old. She is now more difficult to feed as she reacts to a lot of feeds. She is fed on TopSpec AntiLam and chaff, and is in great condition. Attached is a photo of us at the beach last week, I am sure you’ll agree she looks fantastic for a 30-year-old.”

“When I switched to TopSpec Senior Feed Balancer, I admit I was hoping for a miracle! Yesterday for the first time in about two years Whisky, 27-years-old, was able to hold his back feet up for me to pick out without holding his breath and look totally uncomfortable! Even a friend commented as she was talking to me as I was doing it. I was so impressed I showed another friend! I then turned him out where he went and rolled like he hasn’t done in years! He’s got very awkward just recently, particularly whilst getting up and down but he went straight down and had a real good wriggle and rolled completely over 3 times which he’s not been able to do for a long time. I would just like to say a huge thank you! I have made no other changes so I can only give full credit to your TopSpec Senior Feed Balancer. Whisky looks fabulous and he loves his new feed! You have granted my wish for a miracle and increased my precious borrowed time!”

Example Feeding Programme for a 15.3hh, retired hack
This diet will provide the nutrients needed to maintain the highest possible quality of life. It provides superb nutritional support for horses suffering from age-related problems e.g. loss of mobility and/or loose droppings and/or late retention of winter coat.

1) High quality hay or haylage (if can still chew effectively), offered ad-lib.

2) Bucket feed, to be fed twice daily: -
A) Foundation product:
250 grams (1TopSpec measure) TopSpec Senior Feed Balancer

B) Calorie sources:
i) 0-500 grams nutritious, non-straw, chaff e.g. TopChop Alfalfa (amount depends on ability to chew hay, haylage or chop)
ii) 1.25kg TopSpec CoolCondition Cubes (soaked if necessary), adjusted according to condition

C) Overnight hay substitute, if required:
2-7kg TopSpec FibrePlus cubes, soaked to a soft porridge. The feeding rate will depend on many issues such as season, ability to ‘suck’ grass etc.
