PONY show jumper Alex Gill (13) is following in the family tradition and showing star
quality in the ring just like his uncle, international show jumper Paul Barker.
Yorkshire-based Alex hit top form recently qualifying for two championships at the Horse of the Year Show on the same weekend.
Alex first qualified for the Junior Newcomers final on the talented Amman Valley Santino and then the following day at Port Royal took his ticket in the Junior Foxhunter when once again heading the class.
Said Alex: “It was a brilliant start to the summer holidays and I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend.
“It will be my first time jumping at the Horse of the Year Show and I am really looking forward to the occasion.
“All my ponies are fed on TopSpec and look in brilliant condition. I am very fortunate to have so much family support and really enjoy competing.”
Alex jumped three clears in the Junior Newcomers to take top spot and in the Junior Foxhunter were the only pair to jump clear in the second round giving them their second prestigious ticket.
The seven-year-old 14.2hh has shown excellent form since the family bought him last season and Alex is thrilled with his progress, hoping to jump major classes as they gain experience and confidence.
The pair has also qualified for the Winter JC finals at the Royal International Horse Show and will make their debut at HOYS in October.
