Great Season for Endurance Team

Maraday Mystaron chilling at the start of the 120km

Linda Cowperthwaite and her TopSpec fed endurance team are having a great season.

Here Linda updates us on the season so far.

Writes Linda: “I can’t believe it’s August already time flies when you are having fun!

It’s been an amazing season and all the horses are achieving their goals. Maraday Mystaron is back after having 2015 out of competition and our doubts that he would come back into action have thankfully proven wrong.

“Three CEI International races an 80km and two 120km under his belt and slight changes to his training routine seem to be working.  He is certainly a walking picture of health, fit and in condition and oozing with attitude.

“I really don’t want to sound big headed but I can see people looking at him in awe, I receive so many great comments about how well he looks. It’s always lovely to hear what people think especially from the top equine vets and it makes the team feel so proud. Last weekend Ron as we call him at home was third and first British rider home in a tough 120km at Keysoe.  We were so proud to come third as first and second were from the UAE professional stable.

“Summer Breeze is now in the top10 Novice Championship rankings and we are carefully selecting her final few competitions, fingers crossed we hope to finish in the top five in the final years rankings.”

“BHS Sultan is a very professional horse and eager to please, we have had a few issues with heart rate in the vetting but I am confident once he fully understands what is required it will be fine and also feel it will improve at the longer distances.

“He completed his first 80km last month and achieved his best grade to date, a grade three following a 65km yesterday and winning the best condition of the class.

“He is now classed as competing at Advanced Endurance level which is a big step forward up the competition ladder.  We will continue with graded rides this season with him and aim to race him next season. We feel just waiting a season will lay the foundations for a more confident Freddie in 2017.

“Bobby is a horse we train for a friend who is now also fed on TopSpec and coming along a treat.

“He arrived with a number of issues but we are now making great progress and he’s now an Advanced Endurance horse and FEI qualified. If he keeps improving I am going to aim him at the final International Endurance ride in September to get his foot on the ladder of the FEI ready for 2017.”
